In episode 11, of "DEI in 5: Bite-Sized Discussions on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion," Caren Young (aka The Professional Adult) and I discuss why we agree that it's time to stop "making the business case for DEI." A 2022 study and HBR article (both linked below) suggest that making a fairness case, rather than a profit-driven case, is a more effective way to attract underrepresented job candidates. The authors argue that making the business case sends a signal that these candidates are viewed as means to an end, undermining DEI efforts before they even begin.
